A 42-year-old former police constable attached to Groblersdal SAPS has been sentenced to eight years in prison for repeatedly raping her 12-year-old son. The Middelburg Regional Court delivered the sentence on Thursday, 6 November 2025, after she pleaded guilty to rape, sexual assault, and the possession and production of child pornography.
The case first drew national outrage in 2023 after a disturbing video surfaced online showing the officer engaging in sexual acts with the child inside their home. The footage, which quickly went viral, prompted an immediate investigation by SAPS. The woman — whose identity remains withheld to protect her son — was arrested soon afterward and dismissed from the police service while the case proceeded.

Court records revealed that the abuse occurred multiple times between 2022 and 2023. The mother coerced the boy into sexual acts, filmed the incidents, and stored the videos on her mobile phone. Now 14, the victim testified via video link that he lived in fear, explaining that his mother threatened him with violence if he resisted. The abuse only came to light when a relative stumbled upon the video and alerted authorities.
During the hearing, Prosecutor Advocate Nthabiseng Mokoena condemned the crime as “a gross betrayal of trust,” stressing that the woman used both her parental authority and her position as a police officer to intimidate the child into silence.
