From Childhood Fascination to Power Biking: Sadiq Amana Shares His Riding Journey

Motorcycle enthusiast Sadiq Idris Amana has traced his passion for biking to childhood memories, revealing how early exposure, discipline, and patience shaped his journey into power biking.

Speaking in an interview, Amana said his love for motorcycles began between 2003 and 2005 while growing up in a military barracks environment where bikes were a common sight. According to him, the speed, sound, vibration, and confidence of riders passing through the barracks left a lasting impression on him as a child.

“I used to watch them ride through our area constantly, and it made me feel that one day, I would also ride a motorcycle myself,” he recalled.

He added that his interest deepened during festive periods in Kano, when people paid to ride motorcycles for leisure at open fields. Those experiences, he said, planted the motivation that later grew into a serious passion.

Amana explained that his journey into power biking was gradual and not influenced by a single individual. He began taking the idea seriously around 2017–2018, at a time when financial limitations were his biggest obstacle.

“Power bikes are expensive, high-end machines. I had to focus on working hard and building myself financially first. Once I could finally afford one, that was when my biking journey truly began,” he said.

His first power bike was a Yamaha XSR 700cc, a machine he described as unforgettable. Beyond the thrill of riding, Amana said the bike attracted admiration, particularly from children in his neighborhood who were always excited to see it.

“It wasn’t just a bike for me; it inspired and excited others too,” he noted.

However, his early riding experience also taught him a crucial lesson—safety. Amana emphasized that riding a power bike demands discipline, constant awareness, and sound judgment.

“You must always be conscious of your position on the road, the vehicles around you, and potential risks. Most accidents happen due to human error and poor decision-making,” he said.

Reflecting on what he would tell his beginner self, Amana stressed the importance of riding with purpose rather than excitement.

“Focus on safety and discipline. Be clear about why you want to ride—don’t let passion push you into risky decisions,” he advised.

He also cautioned beginners to be mindful of the company they ride with, warning that group riding can sometimes lead to unhealthy competition and dangerous behavior. Amana revealed that he prefers riding alone to maintain focus and avoid pressure.

He further described safety gear as non-negotiable, urging riders to always wear helmets, gloves, boots, and protective jackets, and to ensure their motorcycles are in perfect condition. He singled out junctions, especially T-junctions, as high-risk areas requiring extra caution, particularly in cities like Abuja.

For Amana, biking is more than speed or style—it is a disciplined lifestyle built on patience, awareness, and respect for life on the road.
