In a statement released to address the matter, the GAF stated unequivocally that there is currently no serving officer within its ranks at the rank of Colonel bearing the alleged surname as circulated in media reports. The military further clarified that within the closest corresponding rank category, there are three Lieutenant Colonels with the surname Manneh, all of whom are presently in The Gambia and actively carrying out their constitutional and professional responsibilities.

According to preliminary verification conducted by the Armed Forces, the incident appears at this stage to involve a case of impersonation.

The GAF disclosed that it has initiated immediate contact and verification procedures, both domestically and externally, including formal engagement with its Senegalese counterparts. The Armed Forces noted that it is receiving the necessary cooperation from authorities in Senegal as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the reported arrest.

Describing the circulation of unverified information as regrettable, the GAF warned that such reports have the potential to mislead the public and undermine institutional integrity. The Armed Forces reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and the protection of its reputation, assuring that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
