Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has emphasised the pivotal role of training in fostering attitudinal change and enhancing capacity building within the Nigerian Army. The GOC made this affirmation during the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Army Education Corps’ (NAEC) First Quarter Divisional Conference 2024 held at the Lt Gen F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks.
Under the theme “Repositioning Nigerian Army Command Schools Towards Enhanced Service Delivery,” Major General Abdussalam stressed that proactive professionalism is crucial for success in assigned tasks. Recognising the importance of training and retraining, he outlined its significance as a potent tool for driving attitudinal change and boosting the capabilities of personnel, teachers, and students within the 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR).
The GOC deemed the conference timely and significant, serving as a conduit for knowledge, collaboration, and innovation in the ever-evolving field of education. He expressed confidence that the conference would facilitate idea exchange, learning from experts, and updating educators on the latest developments in the field, with a specific focus on improving discipline in the NA Command Schools.
In a related development, Major General Bello Tsoho, the Corps Commander Education, commended the organizers for their thoughtful selection of topics. Represented by Major General Sani Ibrahim, Tsoho noted the conference’s relevance in addressing security challenges faced by schools, emphasizing the NAEC’s commitment to historical repositioning of command schools for the benefit of personnel, families, and host communities.
Lt Col Abdulhameed Omeiza Yakubu, the Acting Director of 6 Division Education Services, welcomed attendees and highlighted the intrinsic connection between training and improvement. He underscored training as the best form of welfare for those seeking enhancement, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.
The conference attracted participants from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, paramilitary organizations, soldiers, traditional rulers, and government functionaries, including the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda, and teachers from command secondary schools. Their presence marked a collective effort to elevate the standard of education and ensure that command schools maintain excellence.
