Golden Stage, Printed Legacy: Jerry Adesewo Celebrates 50 with Twin Book Launch in Abuja

By Matthew Eloyi

Theatre practitioner and cultural advocate Om’Oba Jerry Adesewo will mark his 50th birthday with the public presentation of two new books, The Weight of Becoming and The Years of ME, in what is being framed as both a personal milestone and a cultural contribution to Nigeria’s creative landscape.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the FCT City Library, Wuse, Abuja, at 11:00 a.m.

Adesewo, whose career spans theatre production, arts administration, and inclusive creative advocacy, describes the twin publication as a meeting point between performance and introspection. While The Weight of Becoming, a poetry collection, distills decades of lived experience into reflective verse, The Years of ME offers structured personal reflections on leadership, responsibility, and artistic growth.

Beyond the literary unveiling, the theatre producer is using the occasion to promote reading culture. He plans to distribute free copies of the books to 50 selected schools across the Federal Capital Territory — an initiative aimed at strengthening literary access and encouraging reflective thinking among young Nigerians.

The presentation will be chaired by Hon. Chief Jerry Alagbaoso and is expected to attract notable cultural and diplomatic figures, including Prince Adejuwon Akinfolurin, President/CEO of Archive Global Management Ltd., and H.E. Mr. Peter Ryan, Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria.

Observers say the milestone reflects a broader trend among Nigeria’s theatre veterans who are increasingly documenting their artistic journeys in print, preserving creative philosophy alongside performance legacy.

As Nigeria’s creative sector continues to gain global visibility, the forthcoming event underscores the enduring relationship between literature and theatre — and the growing importance of cultural memory in shaping the nation’s artistic future.
