Gombe Youth Forum Calls on Engr. Aliyu Muhammad Combat to Contest 2027 Governorship Election

The Gombe State Youth Awareness Forum has called on Engr. Aliyu Muhammad (Combat), Chairman/CEO of Velocity Group Limited, to contest the forthcoming governorship election in Gombe State, describing him as a compassionate, visionary and people-oriented leader capable of addressing the pressing challenges facing the state.

In a statement issued on behalf of the organisation, the Chairman of the Forum, Abubakar Saidu Umar (Baggio), said the call followed wide consultations with youths, students, traders and community stakeholders across the state who believe Gombe needs leadership driven by empathy, competence and inclusive development.

Baggio highlighted that one of the major concerns confronting young people and families in the state is the rising cost of education, particularly at Gombe State University (GSU).

According to the Forum, students are burdened with school fees running into ₦200 million collectively for the first semester, while ₦44.3 million is paid for the second semester, a situation that continues to place enormous pressure on parents and guardians.

“Education should be a bridge to opportunity, not a barrier. These figures from Gombe State University show the urgent need for leadership that prioritises affordable education and youth welfare,” the statement noted.

Beyond policy concerns, the Forum pointed to Engr. Aliyu Muhammad Combat’s practical demonstration of compassion and responsibility. It recalled that just recently, Engr. Combat donated the sum of ₦10,000,000 to victims of the Gombe Tumba Market fire disaster, describing the gesture as timely and impactful for traders who lost their means of livelihood.

“At a time when many families were devastated by the Tumba Market fire, Engr. Aliyu Muhammad Combat stood up without hesitation to support the victims. This act reflects the kind of leadership Gombe State urgently needs—one that responds swiftly to the pains of the people,” Baggio said.

The Forum added that Engr. Combat’s track record as Chairman of Velocity Nigeria Limited, coupled with his commitment to youth empowerment, economic growth and social responsibility, positions him as a credible candidate who understands both governance and grassroots realities.

According to the youths, Gombe State requires a governor who will address unemployment, rising school fees, insecurity and economic hardship through transparent, inclusive and people-centred policies.

The Gombe State Youth Awareness Forum therefore called on Engr. Aliyu Muhammad Combat to heed the growing call from youths and stakeholders, consult widely and consider offering himself for service to the people of Gombe State, assuring him of strong support from students, traders and young professionals across the state.

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful advocacy, civic awareness and constructive engagement aimed at shaping a better future for Gombe State.
