Speaking after a series of consultations, the governor said he and his political associates explored multiple options, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), before arriving at their current position.
According to him, the APC was ultimately ruled out after careful evaluation, as its political environment did not align with their expectations or interests.
Mohammed described the ADC as a more suitable and welcoming platform, noting that many of his allies and associates are already members of the party, making the transition smoother.
“We left all our options open, including the APC, but certainly we discovered that we cannot be in APC. The people in ADC are our brothers. Some joined earlier, and we are joining now,” he said.
The governor emphasised that the move is part of a gradual political alignment rather than a sudden decision, revealing that several of his loyalists had already defected to the ADC ahead of him, while others are preparing to follow.
His comments come amid deepening internal challenges within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he currently plays a key leadership role.
The development signals a potential shift in political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections, as consultations and defections continue across party lines.
