The event, which drew government officials, community and religious leaders, scholars, and thousands of residents, marked the commencement of the state government’s annual humanitarian support initiative aimed at cushioning economic hardship faced by vulnerable citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the less privileged, including internally displaced persons, widows, and other vulnerable groups across the state. He noted that the Ramadan palliative programme is structured to ensure families observe the fasting period with ease and dignity.
The governor also announced that members of the Christian community would benefit from the distribution, observing that the Christian fasting season coincides with Ramadan this year. He said the gesture reflects the spirit of unity, inclusiveness, and religious harmony for which Borno State is known.
Governor Zulum urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items distributed and called on community leaders to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability throughout the process. He further emphasized the need for peace, unity, and continued prayers for sustained stability and development in the state.
The palliative packages are scheduled for distribution across all 27 local government areas of Borno State, targeting thousands of households. Residents expressed appreciation to the governor for the initiative and offered prayers for lasting peace and prosperity.
