Grace From Thika Shares Heartbreaking Story of Rejection, Survival, Raising Twins Alone

Grace, a young mother from Thika, has opened up about the painful experiences that pushed her to leave her marriage and raise her children alone. Despite the immense challenges, she remains determined to give her twins the love and care they deserve.

Raised in Meru, Grace says she always dreamed of completing her education, but financial difficulties forced her to drop out after primary school. In search of a better life, she moved to Thika and worked as a house manager in various homes. At just 17, she met a man who later became her husband, and the young couple welcomed a set of twins.

For a while, their home was filled with hope—until one of the twins started showing developmental challenges at around eight months old. Grace recalls that instead of supporting her, her husband reacted with cruelty and disbelief. He claimed the child was a curse and pressured her to make heartbreaking decisions she refused to consider.

When she stood her ground to protect her baby, her husband accused her of infidelity and insisted he was not the father. Soon after, he threw her out of their home.

Hoping to find comfort, Grace returned to her parents’ house—only to face more rejection and emotional pain. With no stable support system and no job, she has been struggling to provide even the most basic needs for her children.

Still, Grace refuses to give up.

She is calling on well-wishers and the community for support as she navigates the daily reality of raising twins—one with special needs—all on her own.

Her story sheds light on the silent battles faced by many single mothers and the urgent need for compassion, awareness, and societal support for families caring for children with developmental challenges.
