Gunmen attack Council Chairman, Kills Mobile Police in Taraba
Unidentified armed gunmen have launched an attack on the Chairman of Takum Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State Mr. Shiban Tikari who was on boundaries survey along with the Army Commanding Officer (CO) of the 93 battalion in Takum.
Addressing newsmen the LGA boss explained that was in the area in the company of the CO, Mr Akinyole, with a view to deploying the army to the boundary communities to curtailing a high level of crimes around the axis.
He stated the gunmen strike and attacked them around Dogon Gawa village in LGA. He said on reaching the boundaries axis there was shooting in which he thought it was army clearing the way, “unfortunately it was attackers”.
Shiban said one of the mobile police officers in his entourage was killed in an attempt to resist the unidentified gunmen. He added his rifled was taken away by the attackers while his corpse was deposited in the mortuary.
While the chairman urged residents in area to remain calm, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) could not be reached to comment on the attack, as of time filling this report.
However, the Chairman assured that effort is ongoing to trail and arrest the perpetrators.
