He Stole Milk for His Crying Baby—What Happened Next Restored Faith in Humanity

A case of petty theft in Tabuk City, Kalinga, took a humane turn after police intervened with compassion instead of prosecution when a desperate father was arrested for stealing infant milk.

The incident occurred on October 31, 2025, at Talavera Supermarket, where a single father was apprehended for taking a box of Enfamil infant milk weighing 1.725 kilograms without paying. A store employee stopped him, and police were called in to handle the situation in line with standard procedure.

At the police station, details surrounding the incident emerged. The man had recently lost his construction job after a project ended and had no steady source of income. His wife had left, leaving him to care for their infant alone. According to police accounts, the milk was taken solely to feed his crying baby at home and was not intended for resale.

Upon hearing the circumstances, the station commander, Police Lieutenant Colonel Jack E. Angog, chose a different path. Moved by the man’s situation and understanding the hardship involved, Angog personally paid for the milk. The father was released without charges and allowed to return home with the baby food he needed.

Police officials noted that while the law requires theft to be addressed, the situation also called for empathy. The intervention highlighted the balance between enforcing the law and recognizing human desperation.

The incident has since drawn attention for underscoring the role of compassion in law enforcement, reminding the public that justice can sometimes mean offering help rather than imposing punishment.
