The resolution came after a matter of urgent public importance was raised by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere. He highlighted that Jonathan, who has extensive experience monitoring elections across Africa and beyond for regional and international bodies, became stranded while on an election observation mission.

Supporting the motion, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda emphasized that the safety of all Nigerians abroad should remain a priority, alongside the immediate protection of the former president.

The House unanimously adopted the motion, urging the government to intensify diplomatic efforts to secure Jonathan’s safe return.
