The Olatunji Rilwan Disu, Inspector-General of Police, today, 4th March 2026, convened his inaugural conference with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Peacekeeping Conference Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The high-level meeting brought together strategic managers of the force to deliberate on institutional priorities and national security imperatives.

A major highlight of the conference was the formal inauguration of the Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police. IGP Tunji Disu described the committee as crucial for exploring ways to bring policing closer to communities, improve security governance, and deepen public participation in crime prevention. He clarified that State Police would complement, not replace, the Nigeria Police Force, operating within a coordinated national security framework.
The committee, chaired by , Director-General of the National Institute for Police Studies, includes CP Bode Ojajuni as Secretary; DCP Okebechi Agora; DCP Suleyman Gulma; ACP Ikechukwu Okafor; CSP Tolulope Ipinmisho; and CP Emmanuel Ojukwu (Rtd), Provost of the Police Public Relations School.
The Steering Committee is tasked with reviewing policing models locally and internationally, assessing community security needs, proposing operational frameworks, and establishing accountability and oversight structures to ensure professionalism and public trust.
The conference marks the first strategic engagement between the IGP and senior leadership since his assumption of office and sets the tone for disciplined, modernized, and community-focused policing across Nigeria.
