Nasarawa State governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has said that no governor will like to ignite violence, as that will not only be a distraction but will hinder development initiatives.

According to him, if there is any person that requires peace, it’s the governor because, without peace, there won’t be space to govern.

He dismissed claims that certain governors are inciting violence in their state, stressing that governors are the last people to want to have violence, as such will distract them from carrying out development initiatives.

“If there is anybody that needs peace, believe me, the governor is number one. Because without peace, he can’t manage, he can’t govern,” the governor stated.

Engineer Sule pointed out, with the slightest threat of insecurity, the attention of the Governor is diverted from his development agenda to finding means to restore peace and order, which he added, was not good for the development of the country.

Speaking about the recent breach of peace in Plateau State, the governor called on religious leaders to pray for the return of peace to the state, according to him, Governor Bako Lalong needs all the support and prayers, in order for peace to return to the state.

The governor assured the Bishop that, the doors of his administration remains open, especially towards encouraging religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among different religious beliefs.

Engineer Sule assured the Catholic Bishop of total support, while equally seeking the support of the Church towards peaceful coexistence in the state.

Earlier, in opening remarks, Bishop Ajang, apologized to the governor for delaying the thank-you visit, which should have come shortly after his installation as the new Bishop of the Lafia Diocese.

Bishop Ajang said he found it necessary to come and thank Engineer Sule for his generosity and support, especially with the series of activities leading to his installation three months ago.

He particularly thanked the governor for hosting the entire Bishops in the country, as well as the Plateau State government, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly and representatives of traditional rulers, that were all present during the installation.

The Catholic Bishop commended the synergy existing between government and the Church in Nasarawa State, which made it possible for the governor to extend a helping hand and to be physically present at the Church during the installation.

He assured the governor of a robust relationship with the Church, especially with his experience from being a Chaplin to Governor Simon Bako Lalong, before his appointment as Bishop of Lafia Diocese.
