The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured a one-year prison sentence against 25-year-old Markus Jennifer for attempting to transport an individual for exploitation.
The Kaduna State High Court, under the presiding of Hon. Justice Isiaka Abdullahi, handed down the sentence on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Jennifer had originally been arraigned on May 12, 2025, facing charges under Section 13(2)(c) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
According to NAPTIP, evidence presented in court showed that the accused attempted to move another individual with the intent to exploit them — a direct violation of Nigeria’s anti-human trafficking laws.
The agency emphasized that the conviction serves as a stern warning to anyone involved in human trafficking, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable citizens from exploitation.
