Kano Police Arrest Nephew, Three Others Over Murder of Housewife, Six Children in Inheritance Plot
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a nephew of a deceased housewife alongside three other principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis, allegedly committed over a future inheritance dispute.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. The operation was executed under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation conducted between 10:00 pm on Friday, January 17, and 4:00 am on Saturday, January 18, 2026.
The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, all within Kano metropolis.
Police investigations revealed that the alleged leader of the group, Umar Auwalu, is a nephew of the deceased housewife. He reportedly confessed to his role in the killings, stating that the crime was motivated by a dispute over future inheritance. He further disclosed that the syndicate had allegedly been involved in other violent crimes, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters of Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects include clothes stained with blood, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club locally known as gora, cash allegedly taken from the crime scene, and other dangerous weapons. Police said investigations are ongoing to unravel the full scope of the suspects’ activities.
The Kano State Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation, support, and prayers. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
