Kcee Breaks Silence on Feud With Flavour, Says He Rejected Him Early in Career

Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has opened up on the long-rumoured rift between him and fellow musician Flavour, shedding light on events that date back several years.

Speaking during a recent interview on Yanga FM Lagos, the Limpopo crooner recalled his first encounter with Flavour, revealing that popular talent manager Soso Soberekon had once brought Flavour to him for a potential record deal. According to Kcee, he declined to sign Flavour at the time, explaining that he did not see strong potential in him then.

Kcee emphasized that the decision had nothing to do with personal dislike, noting that he was already well-established in the industry at the time. He said he had already achieved financial success and recognition before Flavour relocated to Lagos to pursue music fully.

Addressing their public disagreement in 2024, which followed Flavour’s online comments about someone allegedly copying his musical style, Kcee said he felt compelled to respond because the comments appeared to undermine other artists in the Igbo cultural music space. He warned against what he described as attempts to “gatekeep” the genre.

According to Kcee, the tension between them is not rooted in the earlier rejection but rather what he described as a superiority complex. He added that some of his colleagues tend to underrate his talent because of his humble nature and lack of self-promotion.

“I came into the music industry before Flavour. I don’t brag about my achievements, but time always proves doubters wrong,” Kcee said, adding that several people who once dismissed his talent have since apologized.

The singer concluded by stressing that his work speaks for itself and that success, consistency, and time ultimately reveal the truth, regardless of opinions or rivalry within the industry.
