Kebbi gov’t trains Health workers on COVID-19 Vaccination

Kebbi State Government has organized training for health workers expected to administer the COVID-19 vaccine on residents in the state.
The two-day training by the Primary Healthcare Development Agency which commenced on Wednesday was to equip health personnel with the vaccination principles and procedures for the success of the exercise in the state.
Declaring the training program open, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Jafar Muhammad stated that the exercise was a prerequisite for the provision of the vaccine by the Federal Government.
Jafar who is also the Chairman of the State Taskforce on COVID-19 disclosed that the first phase training is to be followed by an induction of health workers from the local governments on the program.
The Commissioner revealed that the state has a target of about 2.9 million eligible people to receive the vaccine and that no fewer than 2,289 health personnel have been identified to partake in the vaccine administration in the state.
He further explained that a team of 788 health would be deployed to go round villages in the 225 wards in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGA) to ensure full coverage of the state with the vaccination.
Muhammad, assured that the COVID-19 vaccine destined for Kebbi State was safe having been subjected to rigorous analysis by the National Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ascertain it’s safety and efficacy.
On his part, the manager of the Routine Immunization Programme in the State, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Kende, announced that the COVID-19 vaccines would first be administered on frontline health workers as well as security personnel, workers of filling stations, banks staff and subsequently on the rest of the populace.
While commending the wife of the state governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu for her efforts in awareness creation and sensitization on COVID-19, the project manager commended the team of health officials from the National Healthcare Development Agency for supervising the training exercise in the state.
