Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of ministers under the Economic Community of West African States, Kyari stressed the need for a bold, unified approach to address pressures driven by global crises and rising oil prices.
He noted that strengthening partnerships, particularly with key producers such as Morocco, alongside adopting pooled procurement strategies, would help secure better pricing, stabilise supply, and reduce dependence on external sources.
The minister highlighted Nigeria’s increasing role as a major fertiliser producer, urging local industry players to prioritise regional markets to support neighbouring countries.
According to him, the overarching objective is to ensure that farmers across West Africa and the Sahel have timely and affordable access to essential agricultural inputs ahead of the planting season.
Kyari emphasised that food security remains a shared responsibility, calling on member states to take decisive and collaborative action to safeguard agricultural productivity and regional stability.
