Renowned BBC journalist Madina Dahiru Maishanu has been honoured with the prestigious Future Africa Award, recognising her outstanding contributions to journalism, youth engagement, and storytelling across the continent.
Maishanu, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, began her media career with the Voice of America Hausa service in Washington, D.C., before returning to Nigeria to join BBC Hausa. She is widely recognised for hosting Mahangar Zamani, a YouTube programme that explores social issues affecting young people and women, making complex topics accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
Throughout her career, Maishanu has tackled pressing societal challenges, including malnutrition in northern Nigeria and the rising trend of skin-lightening among African youth. Her reporting has earned acclaim for amplifying under-heard voices and inspiring social change.
