Major General Abubakar Urges Young Officers to Master Basic Military Skills

Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has emphasized the critical role of young officers in shaping the future of the Nigerian Army.
Speaking at the Headquarters 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, he stressed that the future of the Nigerian Army rests on the shoulders of these officers, highlighting the need for them to master basic military skills to address emerging security challenges.
Addressing over 500 young officers undergoing conversion exercise, Major General Abubakar underscored the importance of proficiency in basic military skills, physical fitness, and mental preparedness. He emphasized the significance of the conversion exercise in the career progression of Nigerian Army Officers, particularly those under the Short Service Commission and Direct Short Service Commission.
Explaining that the conversion exercise provides candidates with the opportunity to transition to Regular Combatant and Direct Regular Commissions within the Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar mentioned that candidates will undergo various physical, laboratory, and radiological examinations to assess their fitness.
Acknowledging the support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja NAM, Major General Abubakar expressed confidence in the dedication and capabilities of the young officers. He urged them to approach the opportunity with diligence and commitment, recognizing their critical role in safeguarding the nation’s security interests.
Congratulating the candidates for their participation, Major General Abubakar charged them to maintain the highest standards of regimentation, discipline, and carriage throughout the exercise. He warned against all forms of cheating, emphasizing the need for integrity during the physical and skill at arms tests.
Assuring the candidates of adequate preparation through a cadre organized to tutor them, Major General Abubakar urged them to apply the knowledge and experience acquired during the cadre. The exercise is expected to last for two weeks.
