The hi-tech equipment, the latest in maritime security technologies, is intended to enhance efforts against insecurity on Nigeria’s waterways, particularly in the Niger Delta, Lake Chad region, and other maritime zones.

In a press statement released in Abuja on Friday, the Director of Press & Public Relations at the Ministry, Henshaw Ogubike, confirmed that the two unmanned ships were a donation by Swift Ship Company in the USA to the Nigerian Government.

The Minister, who recently visited the USA, inspected various hi-tech military hardware companies, including NEANY, Swift Ships, and OCR Global. During the visit, Matawalle aimed to promote innovative technologies that could enhance the efficiency of the Nigerian military in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Part of the Minister’s agenda during the visit was to encourage partnerships with US companies for local production of military hardware in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

The newfound partnership is expected to facilitate knowledge transfer and contribute to President Tinubu’s agenda of bringing peace and security to the nation.

Matawalle briefed President Tinubu on the cutting-edge military and intelligence hardware capabilities he inspected in the US, including rapid deployment mobile RADAR systems, unmanned water vehicles, drone ground control stations, and compact biometric search-scan systems.

Reassuring President Tinubu, the Minister emphasised that these advanced capabilities would significantly contribute to the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
