The incident happened around 7.28pm at Accra Road, Wuse Zone 5, when Air Commodore Ijudigal was on his way home from work. He noticed a taxi with terrified passengers inside reversing at high speed, followed by a black Toyota Land Cruiser. He quickly joined the chase and used his official car to block the criminals’ escape route. The taxi driver, in panic, crashed into his car and skidded into a nearby garden.

Air Commodore Ijudigal then got out of his car and ran after one of the criminals who had escaped into a bush. He managed to catch him with the help of some bystanders, who also helped him arrest the other two suspects (a male and a female) and rescue the two female victims.

He then contacted the nearest police post and handed over the suspects to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Benneth Igweh, who praised him for his bravery and service.

The Commissioner said “Air Commodore Ijudigal’s intervention not only prevented a possible tragedy, but also helped capture criminals who posed a threat to the FCT residents.” He added that his act was a testament to his commitment to public service and security.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, also commended Air Commodore Ijudigal for his selfless act. He said that he was proud of his officer, who is currently the Deputy Director of Logistics at the Defence Headquarters. Air Commodore Ijudigal is a former NAF Deputy Director of Sports.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the incident and said that the NAF would continue to support the efforts of the security agencies in ensuring peace and security in the country.
