In a recent development, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has taken a decisive step by suspending further activities related to the allocation of Hajj seats to Private Tour Operators (PTOs) for the next 48 hours. This move is in response to recent accusations by some PTOs who claim they were unable to meet the required pass mark.

The suspension follows the Federal Government of Nigeria’s facilitation of an additional allocation of 30 slots for the PTO sector, a significant increase from the previous 10 slots allocated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, NAHCON established parameters to select the best PTOs based on a scale of 40 highest scores. The list of successful PTOs was released with an assurance to form amicable alliances with the remaining 70.
However, recent accusations of irregularities in the qualification process have prompted NAHCON to prioritise transparency and integrity.
The Commission’s helmsman, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, announced the suspension, urging PTO members with legitimate grievances to present well-documented facts and figures supporting their claims.
“In response to the grievances received, an independent body will conduct an extensive investigation. If the accusations are substantiated and found to be true, appropriate actions will be taken to rectify the situation,” he promised, emphasising NAHCON’s commitment to a fair and impartial investigation.
However, the Commission warns that baseless claims will not be tolerated, and those making frivolous allegations may face consequences to maintain the integrity of the selection process and protect the reputations of NAHCON and the private tour operators involved.
The 48-hour suspension is a temporary measure aimed at ensuring the sanctity of the process. NAHCON remains steadfast in facilitating a fair and transparent pilgrimage experience for all Nigerian Muslims. As the governmental body responsible for coordinating the annual Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage, NAHCON upholds transparency, fairness, and accountability in its operations.
