The event, held at the UN House, attracted representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, heads of government agencies, members of the diplomatic community, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.

In his address, the UNODC Country Representative, Cheikh Toure, described the programme as a strategic intervention designed to address Nigeria’s unique challenges. He noted that it focuses on tackling human trafficking, organised crime, gender inequality, illicit drug use, corruption, illicit financial flows, and strengthening justice delivery systems.

Speaking during the event, Bello reaffirmed NAPTIP’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the programme, describing it as a continuation of the agency’s long-standing partnership with UNODC. She emphasised that the initiative reflects a renewed effort to strengthen Nigeria’s response to human trafficking, migrant smuggling, organised crime, and corruption.

According to her, addressing these challenges requires strong collaboration among government institutions, civil society, international partners, and communities. She added that the programme aligns with NAPTIP’s mandate, particularly in protecting vulnerable groups, advancing justice reforms, and promoting transparency and accountability.

Also in attendance was the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, alongside other key stakeholders.

The launch of the programme marks a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s institutional capacity to combat transnational crimes and promote sustainable development through coordinated national and international efforts.
