In a significant move to combat insecurity, Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has acquired a fleet of advanced Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).
These state-of-the-art vehicles are equipped with enhanced weaponry and sophisticated communication systems, capable of detecting and engaging adversaries from a distance, thereby facilitating seamless military operations.
Speaking during the ceremony Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, representing Minister Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, officially handed over 20 APCs to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff.
His word, “This acquisition marks a pivotal step in the nation’s ongoing battle against various security challenges.
The Permanent Secretary also lauded the synergy between the military services and the decision to engage local manufacturers for the APCs’ production.
“This initiative is expected to **save significant funds, boost employment, and lessen the dependency on foreign currency.
General Musa expressed his gratitude towards the Minister of Defence for this strategic investment and vowed to utilize the APCs effectively.
He emphasized that these carriers would substantially enhance the military’s capability to eradicate insecurity across the country.
The APCs were produced by a Nigerian indigenous company, which has also committed to training operators and providing comprehensive after-sales services, including maintenance, spare parts, and repairs.
Also speaking the chairman of the manufacturing company, Engineer Kola Balogun, revealed plans to begin exporting these carriers, contributing to the country’s foreign currency reserves.
“This development not only strengthens Nigeria’s defence capabilities but also showcases the potential of local industries in contributing to national security and economic growth.
