The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to honour six (6) officers who tragically lost their lives in Delta State during a mission to rescue their colleagues. The officers, who displayed exceptional bravery in the face of danger, were ambushed by armed assailants while conducting an operation in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State. Six (6) others are currently missing-in-action.
The fallen officers, including Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday, will be posthumously honoured for their noble service and ultimate sacrifice at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony scheduled for April 5th, 2024, in Abuja.
In response to this tragic loss, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph.D., NPM, has taken swift actions. The bodies of six (6) slain officers have been recovered, and efforts are underway to locate the missing officers. The families of the fallen officers have been contacted, and immediate measures have been initiated to expedite the processing and payment of their entitlements.
Furthermore, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of five (5) suspects in connection with the incident. These arrests were made possible through the deployment of necessary resources and personnel to apprehend the perpetrators. The suspects are currently providing vital information to aid in the apprehension of all those involved in the attack.
The Inspector General of Police condemns any further assaults on police officers and law enforcement personnel, emphasizing the Force’s commitment to upholding law and order. He urges the public to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force by providing relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
The Nigeria Police Force reassures officers, men, and the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. Together, with the support of well-meaning members of the public, justice will be served, and peace and security will prevail throughout the country.
