Nigerian Army Clarifies Controversial Land Tussle in Oshogbo, Osun 

In response to recent allegations circulating on social and mainstream media, the Nigerian Army has addressed the controversy surrounding a land dispute in Oshogbo, Osun State. The army seeks to clarify misinformation and dispel claims that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is involved as a protagonist.

The Nigerian Army emphasises that the land in question has been a longstanding issue, predating Gen Taoreed Lagbaja’s appointment as the Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023. Agitators claim possession of a High Court Judgment obtained in January 2023, during Gen Lagbaja’s tenure as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna.

The army dismisses attempts to wrongly portray Gen Lagbaja and the COAS office as responsible for the land tussle, branding it a clear act of mischief. They assert their commitment to upholding the Rule of Law and respecting citizens’ rights, acknowledging the High Court of Justice of Osun State’s judgment in the case of Chief Amodu Akanbi Suleiman Folorunsho & Others V. Attorney General of the Federation & Others.

The Nigerian Army has initiated an appeal against the lower court’s decision at the Court of Appeal Akure, asserting that the filing of an appeal operates as a stay of execution. They urge all parties to maintain the status quo until the resolution of the appeal.

In appreciation of the intervention by Honourable members of the House of Representatives and the Osun State House of Assembly, the Nigerian Army solicits understanding and support from other stakeholders and the public as they work to address legitimate concerns and ensure justice prevails. They caution the public against misinformation and assure continued collaboration with relevant authorities to maintain peace and security in the nation.
