Nigerian Army Commends African Bar Association for Upholding Rule of Law
The Nigerian Army (NA) has praised the African Bar Association (ABA) for its dedication to promoting the Rule of Law, Human Rights, and Good Governance. During a meeting held on Thursday 14 March 2024, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant Taoreed Lagbaja, assured the ABA of the NA’s unwavering support in advancing these fundamental principles.
Represented by Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, the COAS expressed gratitude to the ABA for acknowledging the NA’s contributions to national security and development. “I must commend your vital role in providing legal assistance and guidance to the military, which has been instrumental to our adherence to international standards and global best practices.”
In response, President of the African Bar Association, Barrister Hannibal Uwaifo, commended the NA for its consistent support in the training of legal personnel. Uwaifo highlighted the NA’s pivotal role in the establishment of the ABA in 2018, and praised its efforts in fostering collaboration through conferences, training sessions, and partnerships. He affirmed the ABA’s commitment to strengthening its alliance with the NA to address prevailing security challenges and ensure a safer and prosperous Nigeria.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the African Bar Association in upholding the Rule of Law and safeguarding human rights in the nation.
