The Nigerian Army has dismissed allegations made by a former soldier, Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” describing them as misleading and aimed at misinforming the public.
In a statement issued by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the Army clarified that Olamilekan was not dismissed for expressing personal views but for repeated acts of indiscipline, including violations of military regulations and the Armed Forces Social Media Policy.
According to the Army, his dismissal followed due process in line with established military laws, noting that unauthorised media engagements, commercialisation of military identity, and misuse of uniform constitute serious breaches of conduct.
Addressing claims on welfare and remuneration, the Army stated that personnel operate under a structured and transparent salary system guided by official regulations. It added that, beyond monthly salaries, soldiers receive uniform allowances and other entitlements, which are paid directly into their accounts.
The statement further explained that troops deployed on operations, including those under Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East, are entitled to additional benefits such as ration cash allowances, operational allowances, and free feeding arrangements.
On allegations that soldiers purchase their own uniforms and protective gear, the Army described the claims as entirely false. It maintained that the provision of uniforms, arms, ammunition, and protective equipment remains the responsibility of the institution through established logistics and ordnance systems.
While acknowledging that some personnel may choose to supplement issued kits for personal comfort, the Army emphasised that such actions are voluntary and do not reflect any systemic failure.
The Army also refuted claims that troops are deployed without adequate protective equipment, stating that no soldier is sent on operations without the necessary gear. It described such assertions as reckless and capable of undermining troop morale and public confidence.
The military urged the public to disregard what it called baseless allegations and advised media organisations to verify information from credible official sources before publication.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security and the welfare of its personnel, the Army called for continued public support for the Armed Forces and other security agencies working to safeguard the country.
