“We will be firm, strong, decisive, and professional in our operations,” assured Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA STATE, as he received a condolence visit from the Managing Director (MD)/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief (Dr) Samuel Ogbuku.

Major General Abdussalam reiterated the commitment of troops to the mission handed down by the Chief of Army Staff, emphasising the goal to recover stolen weapons and apprehend all involved in the heinous crime at Okuama Community. “Troops will remain in the creeks until these objectives are achieved, undeterred by propaganda or false narratives,” he affirmed.

Highlighting the importance of community assistance, the GOC appealed for cooperation in locating fleeing criminals and the recovered weapons. He emphasised the significance of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as a symbol of national sovereignty, echoing President Tinubu’s assertion that an attack on the armed forces is an attack on the nation.

Expressing gratitude for the solidarity shown by the MD and his team, Major General Abdussalam emphasized the indispensable link between peace, security, and development. He called on stakeholders to provide credible intelligence to aid the apprehension of criminals, ensuring justice for the fallen officers and soldiers.

In response, Chief Samuel Ogbuku of NDDC reiterated the pivotal role of peace in fostering development in the Niger Delta Region. Chief Ogbuku urged all stakeholders to support the Nigerian Army in bringing the perpetrators to justice while expressing solidarity with the families of the victims.
