In a resolute stance towards enhancing operational effectiveness, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army (NA), emphasised the pivotal role of research development and innovation during a seminar organised by the Army Headquarters. The event, themed “Research Development and Innovation in the Military: Strategic Options for NA Operational Effectiveness,” was held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Addressing the gathering, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja underscored the imperative of leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions in navigating the rapidly evolving global security landscape. He highlighted the significant strides made by the NA in responding to various security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and banditry, through research and innovation.
Emphasising the need for continuous adaptation and innovation in modern warfare, Gen. Lagbaja stressed the importance of staying ahead of adversaries by developing new concepts, tactics, techniques, and procedures. The seminar’s theme resonated with his Command Philosophy, emphasising the NA’s commitment to investing in research, development, and innovation to outpace adversarial threats.
Furthermore, Gen. Lagbaja assured stakeholders of the NA’s unwavering commitment to collaboration with relevant partners to enhance operational effectiveness through viable research development and innovation initiatives.
Earlier, Major General Zakari Abubakar, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (COTI), reiterated the strategic significance of research development and innovation in achieving operational readiness. He emphasised the seminar’s objective of harnessing expertise from various sectors to chart the best approach towards enhancing the NA’s operational effectiveness.
The seminar featured lectures, presentations, and interactive sessions led by esteemed resource persons. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, the Ministry of Defence, as well as principal staff officers from Defence and Services Headquarters, among others.
The event highlighted the NA’s dedication to staying at the forefront of operational effectiveness through continuous research, development, and innovation efforts, in alignment with its mission to safeguard national security and protect the populace.
