Nigerian Army Recognises 35 Officers for Academic Excellence (Photos)

The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC NA) of the Nigerian Army celebrated the achievements of 35 officers on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, by bestowing various awards for academic excellence.

Held at the Headquarters TRADOC Officers’ Mess in the Military Cantonment, Minna, Niger State, the event saw the Chief of Training Army Headquarters, Major General SG Mohammed, representing Chief of Army Staff Lt General TA Lagbaja. The officers were acknowledged for their outstanding performance in examinations conducted by TRADOC NA throughout 2023.

The Merit awards, presented in different categories, encompassed achievements such as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Award for Excellence, distinctions in Lieutenant-Captain Practical Promotion Examination, Best Candidates Per Subject Awards, Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination honours, and recognition for Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination proficiency.

Addressing the gathering, Major General KO Aligbe, the Commander TRADOC Nigwria Army, was commended for fostering healthy competition among the officers. The representative of the Special Guest of Honour praised Aligbe for setting a high standard and emphasised that the awards would inspire junior commanders to excel, aligning with the COAS’s vision to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force.

Furthermore, the COAS lauded TRADOC’s solid foundation and congratulated Major General Aligbe on multiple accomplishments since assuming duty. Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for strategic directives and support, the COAS acknowledged the President’s role in enabling the Nigerian Army to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities.

In his welcome address, Major General Kevin Aligbe highlighted that the Merit Awards were designed to reward excellence, a pivotal driver of success. He stressed that the awards contribute to promoting administrative efficiency and overall service quality, reinforcing the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.

The pinnacle of the event was marked by the commissioning of significant projects in Minna Military Cantonment by the representative of the Chief of Army Staff. Dignitaries present, including former Commanders TRADOC NA, Corps Commanders, principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, Departmental Chiefs gof TRADOC NA, Director General Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, and Heads of Security Agencies in Niger State, were also honored with awards and souvenirs.
