Nigerian Army Repels Insurgents, Rescues Kidnap Victims in Multiple Operations
In a successful raid operation conducted into identified IPOB/ESN camps on Tuesday 5 March 2024, combined Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy troops have neutralised 5 armed fighters in a firefight that ensued at Ejemekuru in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
On overpowering the Armed separatists’ resistance with overwhelming fire power, the gallant troops recovered a significant cache of dangerous weapons including one AK-47 rifle, 2 Pump-action Semi automatic rifles, one locally fabricated gun, 2 magazines and 3 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. The troops also recovered 2 motorbikes, 2 mobile handsets and a Camouflage jungle hat.

Director, Army Public Relations, in another operation same day, troops deployed for counter-insurgency operations in North West Nigeria successfully rescued 15 kidnap victims in Tsohuwar Tasha area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The vigilant troops responded swiftly to a distress call and immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident where they engaged the kidnappers in a shootout, overpowering and compelling them to abandon their victims, as they scampered into the forest. All abductees were rescued unharmed.
The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its commitment to mitigating security challenges in troubled areas of the country. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies, as we continue in our untiring efforts to ensure peace and security in the country.
Also, troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) deployed to counter insurgency in North West Nigeria, successfully defended Damba Dikko village, a community in Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which came under attack of marauding insurgents seeking to forcefully extort levies from the villagers.
The vigilant troops swiftly stormed the village and engaged the insurgents in a gun duel, neutralising 2 of them as they rescued two villagers held hostage by the insurgents. The rescued villagers who suffered minor injuries have been given medical attention by NA paramedics.
On the same day, troops of the Nigerian Army in an audacious rescue operation, extricated 4 Kidnap victims abducted by a notorious gang of Kidnappers in Edo State. The Kidnappers had forcefully taken their captives, including a lady and 3 men into Ososo forest in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state, but were tracked and intercepted by the gallant troops, who engaged the criminals in firefight and extricated the abductees. The troops apprehended one of the kidnappers, who is currently undergoing preliminary investigation and will be subsequently handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency. One of the rescued victims who suffered from shock and fatigue has been evacuated to a medical facility, where he is receiving treatment, while others have been handed over to their families.
