Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Bus Passengers, Clears Terrorist Camps, Repels Militia Attack
In a statement signed by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army has reportedly carried out a series of successful operations across the country, rescuing kidnapped bus passengers, clearing terrorist camps, and repelling a militia attack on a village.
On Monday, February 26, 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army rescued 10 passengers who were abducted by armed kidnappers while traveling on a Peace Mass Transit bus from Calabar to Abuja.
The incident occurred at Ogugu Community along Enugu-Kogi Road in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State. The troops responded to a distress call and swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle and freed the hostages.
In a separate operation, troops of the Nigerian Army conducted a clearance operation to the enclaves of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Egbuoma/Osiam in Oguta Local Government Area of Anambra State. The troops encountered and neutralised one terrorist and recovered one Mercedes Benz 350 4matic from their camp.
In another development, troops of the Nigerian Army quelled an attack on Katakpa village in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State following a distress call. An armed group identified as the Bassa militia group had invaded the village and killed the Sarkin Katakpa. The troops embarked on a fighting patrol to the community and successfully repelled the attack. They also recovered two AK 47 Rifles, two AK 47 Magazines, two G3 Rifles, two G3 Rifle Magazines, 41 Cartridges of 39mm ball special ammunition and 45 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The Nigerian Army said it has dominated the general area and continued further exploits to nab the assailants. It also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and to conducting operations to sanitize troubled areas and maintain peace and stability in the country.
