In the wake of recent disturbances in the Mangu Local Government Area,
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has issued a stern directive for troops to intensify efforts in eradicating terrorist activities causing chaos in Plateau and neighbouring states.
During his operational tour to Plateau, Gen Lagbaja emphasised the need for a robust approach, instructing troops to “go hard” on those disrupting peace and to neutralise any terrorists causing harm to people and property.
The Army Chief acknowledged “this is no doubt a complex security situation, considering the political, cultural, and economic factors responsible for them, hence the need for us to be more strategic,” he said.

Having been briefed by Major General Abdusalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Gen Lagbaja inspected recovered arms and ammunition, commending the troops for preventing the crisis from spreading further. He expressed confidence in the resilience of the troops and urged them to maintain the trust of the people by adhering to the rules of engagement without bias.
Addressing allegations of misconduct, Gen Lagbaja assured that the Armed Forces have internal regulatory mechanisms, emphasizing that any personnel compromising their duties would face legal consequences. The Army Chief also met with Plateau State Governor Barr Caleb Mutfwang, thanking the government for their support and reaffirming the commitment to restoring peace in troubled areas.
Governor Mutfwang acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Army and stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and the civil populace to enhance security. He deemed the recent breach avoidable and called for concerted efforts to regain peace and harmony.
This directive marks a decisive move by the Nigerian Army to address security challenges and restore tranquillity in Plateau and surrounding regions.
