The Nigerian military is reportedly preparing to receive 12 Kawasaki KV-107 helicopters from Saudi Arabia, a development expected to significantly enhance the country’s heavy-lift and logistical airlift capabilities.

The report first emerged in early January 2026 through Honourable Aliyu Ibrahim Gebi, Special Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. While Gebi did not officially confirm the transfer, defence analysts have given considerable weight to the disclosure, citing his track record of accurately forecasting previous military acquisitions.

If finalized, the addition of the KV-107 helicopters would represent a major boost to Nigeria’s air mobility, particularly in troop transport, humanitarian support operations and logistics resupply across difficult terrain. The twin-engine helicopters are known for their reliability in demanding environments and their capacity to carry personnel and heavy equipment.

However, the specific service arm expected to operate the aircraft remains unclear, with speculation ranging between the Nigerian Air Force and joint operational commands.

Military observers note that the acquisition aligns with ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthen operational readiness and improve rapid response capabilities amid evolving security challenges nationwide.

Official confirmation from defence authorities is still awaited.
