Nigerian Troops Intensify Operations Against IPOB/ESN in Anambra, Destroy Camps, Seize Weapons
Troops of Operation EASTERN SANITY have intensified clearance operations against the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) within the Area of Operations, in a coordinated effort to restore lasting peace and security in southeastern Nigeria.

On March 2026, Nigerian troops, in conjunction with other security agencies and supported by the Nigerian Air Force, conducted targeted operations at Camp Gbadoanya in Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State. The joint force successfully advanced to dismantle remnants of IPOB/ESN insurgents operating in the camp and surrounding areas.
During the operation, several insurgent camps were identified, thoroughly cleared, and destroyed. Security forces recovered a wide array of weapons and materials, including pump action guns, locally made dane guns, assorted rifle magazines, rifle parts, belts of ammunition, and cutting machines. Items associated with the Biafran separatist movement, such as Biafran currencies, musical instruments of the Biafran Army Band, a Biafran flag, and a Biafran Army Headquarters flag, were also seized. The flags were destroyed, and the Nigerian flag was hoisted in their place.
Operations continued on 4 March 2026, with troops dismantling additional insurgent camps within Camp Gbadoanya. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fabrication site was discovered and neutralized. Recovered materials included welding machines, drilling machines, filling machines, car batteries, an electrode welding handle, twelve locally fabricated guns, rifle components, and other IED-making equipment.
The ongoing operations underscore the commitment of Nigerian security forces to neutralize insurgent threats, safeguard civilians, and reassert government control over affected areas in the southeast. The military has assured residents of continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
