Nigerian army troops, supported by a hybrid force and a civilian militia, launched a successful offensive against a Boko Haram/ISWAP stronghold in the Timbuktu triangle area of the Lake Chad region on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

The troops faced fierce resistance from the insurgents, who used car bombs, mortars, gun trucks and motorbikes to attack them. However, the troops overpowered the militants and forced them to flee, leaving behind their weapons and equipment.

The troops recovered a mine-resistant vehicle, a gun truck with an anti-aircraft gun, a Dushka machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, a locally made gun, a rocket-propelled grenade, 273 rounds of ammunition, a pumping machine, and three motorbikes from the insurgents’ base.

They also killed three terrorists in the operation, which dealt a major blow to the Boko Haram/ISWAP group that has been terrorizing the region for years.

The troops are currently pursuing the fleeing insurgents and exploiting their victory.

In another operation, the army troops raided a criminal hideout in Katakpa village, Toto local government area of Nasarawa state. They killed one criminal and seized two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action rifle, three AK-47 magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition.

The army chief praised the troops for their achievements and urged them to remain vigilant and maintain the pressure on the enemies.
