The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has called on commanders to prioritize efficient border security and migration management to bolster national security.
During a meeting with Comptrollers of Border Commands and Commanders at the Service Headquarters in Abuja, Nandap highlighted the critical importance of securing the nation’s borders.
The meeting aimed to assess border situations to guide the development of policies and operational strategies that enhance national security.
Nandap emphasized the need for “extra layers” of security to prevent infiltration by criminal elements, urging commanders to adopt supervisory strategies, report significant movements promptly, and handle sensitive intelligence with professionalism. She also mandated the submission of weekly reports through approved channels.
Additionally, Nandap directed the immediate submission of reports on manpower and logistics audits, stressing the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration for effective intelligence sharing.
To further secure the nation’s borders, she ordered the removal of unauthorized checkpoints and called for routine patrols to prevent dangerous elements from entering the country.
