NYSC DG Donates Four Cows, Grants One-Day Break to Corps Members in Kaduna Camp

By Matthew Eloyi

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed has donated four cows to the corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II in the Kaduna State orientation camp.

Along with the donation, he declared a one-day break from camp activities in appreciation of the corps members’ discipline and dedication.

Speaking to the corps members during his visit to the camp on Wednesday, Ahmed emphasized the importance of participating in all camp activities, noting that they would not regret the experience. He explained that the regimented activities are designed to instil discipline and prepare them for future challenges.

“Such activities are meant to make them rugged and enable them to out-stand future rigours of life,” Ahmed said, adding that these experiences would help mould them into future leaders.

While encouraging active participation, the DG urged corps members with medical conditions not to hide their challenges but to engage in camp activities only if they were healthy.

He also highlighted the benefits of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which he said had produced billionaires and provided interest-free loans through partnerships with various organizations.

On security, Ahmed reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of the corps members, but reminded them to prioritize their own safety by avoiding night travels and refraining from accepting lifts from strangers.

“The scheme had lost many corps members to night travels. Travelling in the daytime is easier to save lives in unfortunate situations like accidents,” he said.

He also urged them to leave a positive impact in their places of primary assignment and to respect the local norms and traditions of their host communities.

Ahmed praised the camp officials, particularly the camp Commandant, for maintaining discipline among the large number of corps members.

In his remarks, the Kaduna State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Hassan Taura, disclosed that 2,615 corps members—1,976 for Kaduna State and 639 for the FCT—were undergoing orientation at the camp. He assured that despite some challenges, the camp community remained secure, and the corps members had shown exemplary discipline.

Taura also noted that the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) had fulfilled his promise to construct a borehole in the camp, which had helped reduce water shortages.

In addition to the cows, Ahmed gave cash gifts to corps members who excelled during a dance presentation, commending their regimentation and high sense of discipline
