This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Second Division, Lt-Col. Polycarp Okoye, on Sunday in Abuja.
The visit, prompted by the alarming incidents on Monday, January 29, 2024, saw the GOC being briefed by Brigadier General JR Lar, Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade.
General Lar highlighted the joint efforts of the brigade’s troops, local police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and various paramilitary agencies, including the local vigilante team, in conducting thorough search and rescue operations, clearance operations, and raids on the bushes where criminals were believed to be hiding.
Speaking on the collaboration, General Lar mentioned resolutions by the State Assembly and Council of Obas forbidding individuals or groups from residing in the bushes. He emphasised the ongoing joint operation aimed at clearing these areas of illegal occupants and criminal elements.
General Lar assured the GOC that all individuals involved in the recent incidents would be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
Commending the dedication of the Brigade Commander and his team, the GOC urged them to escalate their efforts, emphasising the importance of capturing the criminal elements responsible for the unrest and restoring normalcy in the area.
The operation, named “Clear Path,” aims to ensure the safety of residents and eliminate criminal elements threatening the peace of Ekiti State.
