Otedola Weighs In as Dangote Calls for Probe of NMDPRA Boss Over Alleged $5m School Fees

Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has weighed in on allegations made by Aliko Dangote against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, over alleged extravagant spending on his children’s education.

Otedola shared his reaction on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, December 15, 2025, following a report aired by Channels Television in which Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption. Dangote alleged that the NMDPRA boss spent about $5 million on secondary school education for his four children in Switzerland, a figure he described as difficult to reconcile with earnings from public service.

Speaking earlier, Dangote had stressed that his own children attended secondary school in Nigeria, questioning how a government official could afford such fees abroad without raising red flags. He called on the Federal Government to investigate the matter, warning that unanswered allegations could undermine public trust and investor confidence.

Reacting to the development, Otedola echoed concerns about accountability in public office. In his post, he questioned whether the NMDPRA chief executive was “living large on taxpayers’ money” and noted that Dangote had formally called for a government probe.

“Aliko Dangote says NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed spent $5 million on Swiss school fees for his children. Living large on taxpayers’ money or what?” Otedola wrote. “He has called on the Federal Government to investigate and prosecute.”

The allegations have sparked renewed public debate over transparency, lifestyle audits, and accountability among senior public officials, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough and independent investigation into the claims.
