The newly appointed National Chairman of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump to provide support in protecting Nigeria’s democratic institutions, warning that the nation is on a precarious path.
Speaking shortly after assuming office, Turaki expressed deep concern over what he described as “threats to the democratic process” in Nigeria, urging international partners to take a proactive interest in safeguarding the country’s political stability.
“Nigeria’s democracy is under severe pressure, and decisive action is required to prevent the collapse of our institutions. We appeal to President Trump and the international community to assist in ensuring that democracy thrives in our country,” Turaki said.

The PDP chairman’s call comes amid growing debates over electoral reforms, governance, and political accountability in Nigeria. Turaki emphasized the party’s commitment to democratic principles while urging both domestic and foreign stakeholders to support measures that uphold the rule of law.
Political analysts note that Turaki’s appeal highlights increasing concerns among opposition parties regarding electoral integrity and the future of democratic governance in Nigeria.
