Port Harcourt refinery to be ready in 2023 – Kyari
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Malam Mele Kolo Kyari, has disclosed that the Port Harcourt refinery would be functional as planned by 2023.
Kyari made this known via a message delivered on his behalf by the Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation, Mr Umar Ajiya.

According to the GMD, the refinery would be ready when repairs would have been completed on the old refinery also known as Area 5.
He said the target was to fix the old refinery first so that the local refining could resume as soon as possible, adding that NNPC management would do everything to support the contractor, Maire Technimont SPA, to ensure prompt delivery of the project.
In his words, “We are happy we have the contractor onboard. With the strong collaboration of all parties involved, we will achieve the desired results.
“We have both government and private sector financing. We have the Finance Ministry, NEITI, labor unions, and other stakeholders on board this project.”
While noting that this process is one of the most transparent ever, the Group Executive Director, Refineries and Petrochemicals, NNPC, Engineer Mustapha Yakubu affirmed the corporation’s commitment not to fail Nigerians.
