A Nongovernmental organisation (NGO) PUSH AFRICA has advocated for the promotion of socio-economic justice for poor people in Nigeria.

Our correspondent reports that PUSH AFRICA was launched as a nationwide initiative to redirect the attention of politicians and policymakers to the urgent challenges posed by escalating poverty in the country.

Mrs  Doris Egberamen, founder of the PUSH AFRICA while briefing journalists on Thursday in Bauchi, said there was also a launch of an initiative tagged DO-ONE-THING CAMPAIGN.

She said the objective is to focus the attention on prospective leaders who are aspiring to vie for various political offices to give priority to the raging increase of poor people in the country.

According to her, the goals of the  DO-ONE-THING campaign include the Promotion of socio-economic justice for poor people in Nigeria.

“We are also calling on the government to formulate sustainable programmes and policies to help redress the poverty, unemployment, education, health and housing problems of the poor throughout the country,” she said.

Egberamen added that the objective is to create a platform where poor people can tell their own stories and be agents, participants and beneficiaries of sustainable economic growth in their communities.

“To organize fine minds to highlight and find solutions to the many problems facing the country’s poor.

“To advocate economic and fundamental human rights for poor Nigerians,” she said

The Founder explained that the campaign would focus on engaging and articulating the problems of the poor in a manner that will lead to sustainable solutions for poverty reduction in Nigeria.

She pointed out that PUSH AFRICA would show the government some community-based opportunities that when harnessed can help reduce poverty in local communities across the state.

Mrs Egberamen reiterated her commitment to organising election debate in Bauchi state.

She however called on all stakeholders, political leaders, development partners, the media and members of the public to support the campaign to build the state and the country at large.
