Relief as Abducted Student Maryam Regains Freedom After Months in Captivity

Maryam, a young Nigerian student who was abducted by suspected bandits while travelling to school, has reportedly been released after spending months in captivity.

She was kidnapped while on her way from Zamfara State to Sokoto State, where she was said to be pursuing her education, before the attackers intercepted her and took her to an unknown destination.

News of her release gained traction after she appeared in a video call with media blogger D English Alhaji. In the widely circulated video, Maryam appeared calm and in stable condition, bringing relief to many Nigerians who had followed her situation.

Her abduction had earlier drawn nationwide attention after distressing footage emerged online showing her in captivity and appealing for help, highlighting ongoing concerns over kidnapping incidents in parts of the country.

While the details of her release remain unclear, such situations are often linked to negotiations involving families and abductors.

As of the time of this report, security agencies have not issued any official statement regarding her release or whether any suspects have been apprehended.

Her return has been welcomed with relief, even as it renews concerns about insecurity and the need for stronger measures to safeguard citizens.
