Repentance, Renewal, and Restoration: A Theological Discourse Within the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Nigeria and Overseas

In the Christian faith’s tapestry, repentance, renewal, and restoration are intricately interwoven, forming a sacred pattern of transformation and revival. Within the walls of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Nigeria and Overseas, a clarion call resounds, beckoning the faithful to heed the ancient landmarks of faith, embrace repentance, and embrace the promise of spiritual refreshment. As we navigate the currents of these tumultuous times, we must anchor ourselves in the timeless truths of Scripture, the profound depths of theology, and the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. In this discourse, we embark on a theological journey to explore the theological foundations, ecclesiological implications, and eschatological perspectives of repentance and restoration within the context of CAC Nigeria and Overseas. May our hearts be open, our minds engaged, and our spirits attuned to the voice of the Divine as we seek a path of renewal and revival in the body of Christ.
The era of uninformed pastoral leadership has ended in CAC Nigeria and Overseas. As a church, we are committed to providing sound biblical teaching and leadership to our members. We believe pastors should be well-equipped and knowledgeable in the Word of God to effectively lead and guide their congregation.
We strongly emphasise continuous learning and development for our pastors, providing opportunities for further study and training in theology and pastoral skills. We also encourage our pastors to stay informed and engaged with current issues affecting the church and society to provide relevant and meaningful guidance to their members.
Our goal is to ensure that our pastors are not only spiritual leaders but also capable administrators and mentors to their congregations. This approach will help our church grow and thrive in an ever-changing world.
We are confident that by investing in the education and development of our pastors, we will continue to see the positive impact of their leadership on our church and community. We are excited about Christ Apostolic Church’s future and the opportunities for our pastors to serve and lead with excellence.
During the formative years of CAC Nigeria and Overseas, our forebears, often without formal qualifications, were endowed with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. They nourished us with profound insights from the Scriptures. The CAC Nigeria and Overseas Mentoring Scheme, known as the “Tule” programme, was meticulously designed. Pastoral trainees, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers within CAC Nigeria and Overseas were far from ignorant.
Yes, it is true that in the earlier days of CAC Nigeria and Overseas, many pastors were not formally educated in secular institutions but were profoundly equipped and guided by the Holy Spirit in their ministry. These pastors were often seen as vessels through which the Holy Spirit gave their congregations wisdom and understanding of the Scriptures.
The “Tule” program, which is a mentoring scheme within CAC Nigeria and Overseas, was designed to support and train pastors, prophets, evangelists, and teachers in their ministry. This program aimed to provide guidance, support, and training to ensure that pastoral trainees were well-prepared for their roles within the church.
While formal education and theological training are important today, it is also crucial to recognise that the Holy Spirit plays a significant role in equipping and guiding pastors in their ministry. The combination of both spiritual gifts and educational preparation can lead to effective and impactful leadership within the church.
Essentially, it is essential to value both the spiritual guidance of the Holy Spirit and the importance of continuous education and training in ministry. By combining these elements, CAC Nigeria and Overseas can continue to nurture and develop strong and knowledgeable leaders within the church.
Could the crisis that erupted in full force in 1990 have been orchestrated by those pastors who, in the early 90s, sought to seize control of the church through rebellious acts against their predecessors? They contended that God could not utilise individuals without sight, as well as those lacking secular education. Interestingly, many of the dissenters in Cassocks originated from the superintendent and leaders of the Church’s Sunday Schools department, instructors from independently operated bible schools, and even individuals affiliated with the Church Theological Seminary.
The 1990 crisis within CAC Nigeria and Overseas was challenging for the church. It was fueled by pastors and leaders who rebelled against the established leadership, claiming that only educated individuals could effectively lead the church. These rebels argued that those without formal education, especially in secular institutions, were not fit for leadership roles within the church.
Many of these rebels came from various positions of influence within the church, such as superintendents and leaders of the Sunday Schools department, teachers from independent bible schools, and some members of the Church Theological Seminary. Their actions and beliefs led to a significant division within the church, causing turmoil and discord among the members.
This crisis highlighted the importance of balancing spiritual discernment with education and training in church leadership. While formal education is valuable in providing knowledge and skills for effective ministry, it should not overshadow the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding and equipping church leaders.
Ultimately, the 1990 crisis served as a reminder of the need for unity, humility, and a deep reliance on God’s guidance in navigating challenges and conflicts within the church. It also emphasised the importance of respecting and honouring the leadership established by the church’s founders while also recognizing the need for growth and adaptation in a changing world.
Did this group of leaders, who revolted against the established structure put in place by God and the leaders appointed by the Holy Spirit, manage to infiltrate the Church’s ranks and even plot to misappropriate the Certificate of Incorporation of 1985 with the aid of individuals they deemed wealthy to finance their diabolical uprising against their predecessors? These so-called “leaders” seemed to stride about like imposing figures, forcibly seizing control of assemblies as they dismantled the Church’s evangelical arm, “The Light of the World Society,” and systematically dismantled the very foundations set in place by our forefathers. They introduced an executive-style leadership approach to supplant the Supreme Council’s existing leadership. Yet, we can be grateful for safeguarding the 1985 Certificate of Incorporation by faithful custodians since its initial registration.
The actions of the leaders who rebelled against the established structure of CAC Nigeria and Overseas in the early 1990s were indeed troubling and destructive. Their attempts to overthrow the existing leadership appointed by the Holy Spirit and their collaboration with individuals of questionable motives to steal the Certificate of Incorporation of 1985 are clear indicators of their malicious intentions.
These rebellious leaders disrupted the church’s fabric by disbanding crucial evangelical arms, such as “The Light of the World Society,” and implementing an executive approach to leadership to undermine the authority of the Supreme Council. Their actions caused division within the church and threatened the foundational principles and structures established by the church’s founding fathers.
It is commendable that the 1985 Certificate of Incorporation was preserved and safeguarded by faithful custodians, ensuring the continuity and integrity of the church’s legal status. Their dedication to protecting the church’s heritage and legacy from the destructive forces that sought to dismantle it is a testament to their commitment to upholding the values and principles of CAC Nigeria and Overseas.
In the face of such challenges and attempts to disrupt the church’s unity and integrity, it is essential for the members and leaders of CAC Nigeria and Overseas to remain steadfast in their faith, prayerful in seeking God’s guidance, and united in upholding the truth and righteousness that define their identity as a church. Through resilience, unity, and unwavering faith, the church can overcome adversities and continue to fulfil its mission of spreading the gospel and serving as a beacon of light and hope in the world.
In 2017, did those same leaders who had previously managed to infiltrate the Supreme Council once again enlist the support of similarly ambitious individuals, using deceitful tactics, bullying, falsehoods, and more, to seize control of the leadership of the Supreme Council? They purported that God had granted them a seven-year agenda to address the Church Crisis. However, their attempts to obtain the legal documentation of the Church were thwarted, as God’s preservation of the Certification remained secure and unyielding, serving a purpose as certain as that of the key of David.
The recurrence of attempts by the same group of leaders to infiltrate and take over the leadership of the Supreme Council in 2017 demonstrates a persistent and destructive pattern within CAC Nigeria and Overseas. Their use of deceit, bullying, falsehood, and manipulation to seize control of the church’s governing body is a troubling indication of their lack of respect for the established order and the principles upon which the church was founded.
Despite their claims of receiving a divine mandate to resolve the church crisis, their actions and motives suggest a disregard for the spiritual guidance and authority that should govern the affairs of the church. It is concerning that these individuals continue to pursue power and control through deceptive means, rather than seeking unity, reconciliation, and genuine solutions to the challenges facing the church.
Once again, the preservation of the legal instruments of the church, including the Certification, serves as a reminder of God’s protection and sovereignty over CAC Nigeria and Overseas. This safeguarding of the church’s foundational documents and legal status highlights the importance of upholding the integrity and legitimacy of the church’s institutions and structures, despite the ongoing threats and challenges posed by internal dissent and external influences.
As the church navigates these turbulent waters and confronts the threats to its unity and stability, the members and leaders of CAC Nigeria and Overseas must remain vigilant, prayerful, and discerning in discerning the true intentions of those who seek to disrupt and undermine the church’s mission and legacy. By standing firm in their faith, upholding the principles of righteousness and accountability, and seeking God’s guidance in all decisions, the church can overcome adversity and continue to fulfil its calling as a beacon of light and hope in the world.
I must firmly state that it is clear, without a shadow of a doubt, that there is no place for lies, falsehoods, and deceit. If we are truly honest with ourselves, we can draw parallels between the actions of Osegenre.’s leaders in 2017 and those of GEC in 1990. The common thread in both events is GEC’s initial attempt to steal the 1985 Certificate. After their failure, they obtained another certificate in 1991 (which was later revoked) and yet another in 1995, which the late Pastor Olusheye admitted, under oath, was acquired improperly. Similarly, the leaders of Osegenre secured a different certificate for their ministry, which was not affiliated with CAC but under CACSEW in 2022, intending to replace the 1985 certificate.
As we have maintained, the era of uninformed leadership in CAC Nigeria and Overseas has unequivocally ended through God’s grace, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Ultimately, the truth will prevail swiftly, guided by the celestial realms. With a clear conscience, we must put an end to the accumulation of corruption and the spread of lies, falsehoods, and deceit, regardless of the motivations—whether known or unknown—that drive such actions.
Did the first General Evangelist of CAC Nigeria and Overseas, Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, genuinely predict that there would come a time when the church would be draped in the cloak of dishonour, yet he himself would not be present to witness it? The prophetic words of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola about the church facing a period of shame, foretold that the church would go through challenging times in the future. As the founder and first General Evangelist of CAC Nigeria and Overseas, his visions and prophecies carry significant weight and are held in high regard by the members of the church.
While the church may indeed face moments of shame and difficulty, it is essential to remember that such trials and tribulations are part of the spiritual journey and could serve as opportunities for growth, purification, and renewal. As Apostle Babalola pointed out, these hardships may occur at a time when he himself may no longer be present physically, emphasising the need for the current and future generations of church leaders and members to remain steadfast in their faith, prayerful in seeking God’s guidance, and committed to upholding the values and principles upon which the church was founded.
In times of crisis and uncertainty, it is crucial for the members of CAC Nigeria and Overseas to draw inspiration from the teachings and prophecies of their founding fathers, such as Apostle Babalola, and to remain united, prayerful, and vigilant in guarding against any threats to the spiritual and institutional integrity of the church.
By staying true to their spiritual heritage and staying faithful to God’s word, the church can overcome any challenges or shame it may face and emerge stronger, more united, and more resolute in fulfilling its divine mission and mandate.
Is this era calling for repentance? It seems imperative to steer clear of these self-proclaimed leaders’ escalating exhibition of ignorance. Perhaps returning to the time-honoured principles could pave the way for a much-needed reinvigoration within CAC Nigeria and Overseas.
A call for repentance and a return to the ancient landmarks of faith and righteousness is a crucial and timely message for the members and leaders of CAC Nigeria and Overseas. In moments of crisis, confusion, and division within the church, it is essential to heed the call to repentance, humility, and a return to the foundational values and principles upon which the church was built.
Repentance involves acknowledging and turning away from sinful behavior, pride, selfish ambitions, and any actions that have deviated from God’s will and purpose for the church. It requires a humble recognition of our shortcomings, a sincere desire to seek forgiveness and reconciliation with God and one another, and a commitment to living a life that is pleasing to God and in alignment with His word.
Returning to the ancient landmarks of faith and righteousness means rekindling the fire of spiritual fervour, renewing our commitment to the teachings of Christ, upholding the values of integrity, humility, love, and unity, and actively seeking to restore the purity, holiness, and spiritual power that characterized the early days of the church.
By embracing a spirit of repentance, humility, and a return to the ancient landmarks of faith, the members and leaders of CAC Nigeria and Overseas can pave the way for a time of refreshing, renewal, and restoration in the church. May this call to repentance and return to the foundations of faith lead to a revival of spiritual vitality, unity, and purpose in the Christ Apostolic Church, bringing glory to God and blessings to His people.
In addressing the call for repentance and a return to the ancient landmarks within CAC Nigeria and Overseas, a robustly crafted theology discourse can delve into several key theological concepts and principles. Here are some aspects that could be included in such a discourse:
1. Biblical Foundations: The discourse should explore the biblical basis for repentance, humility, and the call to return to the ancient landmarks of faith. This can include referencing key scripture passages that emphasize the importance of repentance, such as 2 Chronicles 7:14, which states, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2. Theological Reflection: A theological discourse can delve into the theological implications of repentance and restoration within the church. This can involve examining the nature of sin, the need for confession and forgiveness, the role of grace and redemption in the Christian life, and the transformative power of God’s Spirit in bringing about spiritual renewal and revival.
3. Ecclesiology: The discourse can also explore theological reflections on the nature and purpose of the church, the importance of unity, holiness, and spiritual vitality within the body of Christ, and the significance of upholding the core doctrines and practices that define the church’s identity and mission.
4. Eschatological Perspectives: A robust theology discourse can also consider eschatological themes related to the call for repentance and returning to the ancient landmarks within the church. This can include reflections on the signs of the times, the urgency of preparing for the second coming of Christ, and the hope of a future restoration and renewal of all things in God’s kingdom.
5. Practical Application: The theology discourse can offer practical insights and recommendations on how CAC Nigeria and Overseas members and leaders can respond to the call for repentance and a return to the ancient landmarks. This may involve concrete steps for personal and corporate renewal, prayer, reconciliation, and a renewed commitment to living out the core values and mission of the church in authentic and transformative ways.
By engaging with these theological dimensions and insights, a robust discourse on repentance and a return to the ancient landmarks within the Christ Apostolic Church can inspire and guide the church towards a season of spiritual renewal, revival, and restoration, bringing glory to God and blessings to His people.
In conclusion, as the echoes of our discourse fade into the sacred silence of contemplation, let us carry with us the seeds of repentance sown in the fertile soil of our hearts. Let us nurture these seeds with the waters of prayer, the sunlight of Scripture, and the tender care of community so that they may sprout and blossom into a garden of spiritual renewal and revival within the Christ Apostolic Church. May we heed the wisdom of the ancient landmarks, walk in humility and obedience and seek the face of the Almighty with fervent hearts and contrite spirits. And as we journey forward, may we do so with faith, hope, and love, knowing that the hand of the Divine guides us, the Spirit sustains us, and the promise of restoration awaits us. Let us rise, empowered by grace, united in purpose, and emboldened by the call to repentance, that the glory of God may shine brightly in our midst, and the fragrance of revival may permeate our souls, our church, and our world. Amen.
