Rochas Okorocha Arrested, Detained by CID
The police in Imo State has arrested and detained the former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, for trying to unsealing Royal Spring Palm Apartment, a hotel belonging to his wife that was sealed by the state government.
Mr Okorocha, a Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate, was accused of leading the destruction of security vehicles while trying to unseal the hotel.
The senator was seen in a photo being circulated on social media sitting along a corridor of a building believed to be a police station.
Mr Okorocha’s aide, Ebere Nzewuji, confirmed to newsmen on Sunday evening that the former governor has been arrested and that he was detained at the police headquarters in Owerri.
According to the commissioner for lands and physical planning who sealed the property on behalf of the State Government the hotel was built on government land without permission.
Sam Onwuemeodo, Mr Okorocha’s media aide, stated in a statement that the state governor, Hope Uzodinma’s aide on special duties, Chinasa Nwaneri, led the thugs to attack the senator and his entourage.
He alleged that the governor’s aide was backed by the police in the state.
While the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State, Ikeokwu Orlando, declined comment on the incident, Mr Okorocha’s aide, Mr Nzewuji, assured that the dispute between the senator and Governor Uzodinma is all about political vendetta and witch hunt.
He stated that it is all about political vendetta and witch hunt which is not far from the 2023 presidential election. Mr Nzewuji called on President Muhammadu Buhari and other political leaders in the country to step in and mediate in the feud between Mr Okorocha and the state governor.
