In a heartwarming display of support for wounded servicemen and women, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, have embarked on a significant three-day visit to Nigeria.
The royal couple’s journey began at the Defence Headquarters upon the gracious invitation of Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff.
The visit holds special importance as it is tied to the Invictus Games—an international adaptive sports event for injured veterans and service personnel, which was founded by Prince Harry in 2014.
This noble cause resonates with the couple’s philanthropic efforts and their continuous advocacy for those who have served their countries.
Upon their arrival in Abuja, the Duke and Duchess made their first stop at the Light Academy in Wuse, an educational institution that enjoys the support of the Archewell Foundation.
They were warmly welcomed by the President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, alongside other distinguished members of the Nigerian military community.
The royal visit is not just ceremonial; it includes a series of engagements that reflect their commitment to the Invictus spirit. After a private meeting with the defence chief, the couple is scheduled to visit the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
There, they will meet with soldiers who have sustained injuries, offering them encouragement and gratitude for their sacrifices.
Adding a competitive edge to the visit, a novelty volleyball match is set to take place between the CDS Invictus Team and the Duke’s Team.
This event, organized by AVM Abidemi Marquis, the director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters, promises to be a highlight of the visit, showcasing the resilience and camaraderie of the participants.
The Duke’s itinerary also includes strategic meetings and a visit to Lagos, ensuring that the royal couple’s brief stay is packed with meaningful interactions and support for the Invictus community.
Despite the flurry of activities, the Duke and the CDS maintained a respectful silence with the press before their departure to Kaduna, perhaps signifying the solemnity and respect that underpins this visit.
As the Duke and Duchess continue their journey, their presence in Nigeria serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the enduring spirit of those who have served. It is a visit that transcends mere formality, touching lives and inspiring many.
